Treasure Coast Boys Academy is a year-round boarding school just for boys struggling with their behavior and motivations. It is a haven for boys ages 12-17 with out-of-control behaviors. It has an on-campus accredited private school registered with the State of Florida.
The intensive program is designed to change the behavior and attitude of boys struggling with behavioral and motivational issues such as falling grades, school suspension, anger, defiance, depression, attention deficit, or attachment disorders. They also successfully resolve drug and alcohol abuse and addictions, which often coincide with behavioral issues.
The ranch property is located on a 30-acre parcel, 10 miles west of Vero Beach, Florida, in cattle and orchard country. The boys begin in a dorm setting and finish in a large home with house parents. The property features a well-equipped gym and weight machines, a soccer field, a baseball diamond, a basketball court, a pool, a game room, fishing ponds, and professional sport fishing boats to take frequent fishing trips. They have equine therapy and horses on the property that are often ridden and taken on camping trips. They form strong relationships with each boy, and many life-changing experiences occur while involved in these outdoor activities.
The staff works with each boy in cooperation with their family, bringing a vast amount of experience to the table. They are significant catalysts in each boy’s life for making better choices and eliminating self-destructive attitudes and behaviors. Education is a priority at Treasure Coast Boys Academy.
Leadership skills, integrity, and work’s importance are also learned through indoor and outdoor responsibilities. Residents are encouraged to challenge and encourage each other to live out their faith in everything they do and say. Residents pray for one another and challenge each other through positive peer pressure to walk in the righteousness of God, which is demonstrated through the Godly character traits such as purity, honesty, and generosity.
The program believes that the first change must be a heart change…leading an out-of-control teenager to a second chance at attaining a bright future of successful living.
Education
Treasure Coast Boys Academy provides focused and individualized academic attention for the students. Education goes on, and credits are earned, but education is not the program’s primary focus. We concern ourselves most with character, integrity, hard work, and respect for others. If those attributes are in place, education is more easily accomplished on campus and when the boy returns home.
Individual and Group Therapy
Therapy is ongoing – all day, every day. Individual counseling sessions are not as frequent as the many 10-15 minute life coaching during school, work, or a sporting event. As was once said, the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man. A simple horse ride can provide a life-changing conversation in a young man’s life. The same can be said for a day on the lake fishing with a good mentor.
Equine Program
Through the relationships and bonds the young men build with the horses, we believe they will experience personal empowerment, therapeutic activities, riding, spiritual growth, life-changing insights, and a good work ethic while learning how to care for an animal.
Horses are large and somewhat intimidating to many people. This creates a natural opportunity for some to overcome fear and develop confidence. Despite those fears, working alongside a horse creates confidence and provides wonderful insight when dealing with other intimidating and challenging situations in life. Often during a session, the horse or experience can initiate an enlightened moment that impacts the teen and their family’s way of thinking or behaving. In the end, they will take away key experiences and learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses and then processing (or discussing) feelings, behaviors, and patterns. Our program is not about teaching people to ride horses or horsemanship. It is neither required nor necessary for those who come to us for help to have any horse experience.
Outdoor Recreation
Treasure Coast students have an exciting opportunity to spend time regularly in the wilderness, on the many local waterways, and the nearby Atlantic ocean. Boys enjoy horseback riding, hiking, fishing, exploring, and other wilderness adventures. While they experience fun in the wilderness, our counselors and mentors work on their thinking and behaviors. For boys who once had no hope for their own future, this experience shows them that life can be exciting and adventurous without drugs, alcohol, electronic war games, and the other negative influences that were part of their lives in the past.
Family Involvement
Treasure Coast Boys Academy understands that success in life transformation depends on an intense, loving family atmosphere when going home. Unconditional love with clear, well-defined boundaries is just a few of the family dynamics we focus on teaching the family while the student is here.
Treasure Coast Boys Academy specializes in helping boys who are exhibiting the following:
- skipping school, resulting in failing grades
- abnormal lack of ambition and depression
- outbursts of anger and destruction of home property
- absence from the home for extended periods of time
- stealing from family members
- poor choice of friends and suspected drug use
Lives are transformed by God’s power, stronger than the bonds of rebellion or addiction. They help people with spiritual, emotional, physical, social, and educational challenges to prepare them for their new life.
Students learn to work through relationship problems with their peers and their families at home. They will learn to apply the character qualities they learn in the classroom to their everyday lives.
Our Campus is Faith-Based, Christ-Centered, and Discipleship-Driven.
Our approach is capable of customizing and addressing each student’s individual challenges with sensitivity and effectiveness. We offer highly competent supervision at all times, creating a structured program where discipline, responsibility, leadership, and self-confidence can be stimulated and developed. Our residential facilities allow the young men to thrive in their academics at a fully staffed school and online curriculum.
Our Campus staff is trained and motivated to put these young men’s success as our top priority. We have created a culture where God is glorified. The staff exemplifies Christlikeness. The students are safe to discover themselves and develop the character that will thrive and succeed in the community. By the end of their program, we endeavor for the young men to have a thriving relationship with God, a healthy character, and a family restoration that will last a lifetime. Our final investment into their lives is to help them and their family devise an exit strategy following their graduation to give them every advantage for success.
Our goal is to get them through the program and set them up for a prosperous journey throughout their life. Daniel 11:32 says, “…but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”
